Make a Difference! Run for a Seat on SPJ/LA’s Board of Directors
The Greater Los Angeles chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists is seeking candidates to run for six open seats on its board of directors in its upcoming leadership election.
SPJ/LA is 100% powered by volunteers, who help the chapter carry out its mission of advocating for the First Amendment, staging educational programs, promoting the work of Southern California journalists and providing scholarships to students looking to enter the profession. The board leads the charge on those initiatives while also helping journalists connect with each other.
Board members serve three-year terms. The deadline for candidates to file is Dec. 8.
SPJ is the nation’s largest and most broad-based journalism organization, dedicated to promoting high standards of ethical behavior and encouraging the free practice of journalism. Founded in 1909 as Sigma Delta Chi, SPJ works to inspire and educate the next generation of journalists and protects First Amendment guarantees of freedom of speech and the press.
Only members of SPJ/LA are eligible to vote in the board election, which will be held from Dec. 16 to 18. Ensure your membership status is up to date by Dec. 10.
If you’re an SPJ member but haven’t yet joined the L.A. chapter, please log onto the national website’s membership page and join by Dec. 10.
To sign up as a candidate, please email SPJ/LA at spjlosangeles@gmail.com.
