About SPJ/LA

Founded in 1934, the Greater Los Angeles chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists is devoted to supporting Southern California journalists and ensuring they can carry out their jobs unimpeded. SPJ/LA works to inspire and educate the next generation of journalists, promote high standards of ethical behavior, and protect First Amendment guarantees of freedom of speech and the press.

Members of the Board of Directors are elected by the general membership to serve three-year terms. Elections are held in December, with terms starting in January.

SPJ/LA has committees devoted to ethics, advocacy, diversity, scholarships, Freedom of Information and other topics. A full list of those committees can be found here.
