The Greater Los Angeles chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists invites you to the virtual panel discussion "L.A.'s Newsrooms Confront 2020's Racial Reckoning." The event will be held at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021.

In 2020, the killing of unarmed Black and Brown people by law enforcement galvanized protests across Los Angeles and throughout the U.S. At the same time, the outbreak of COVID-19 highlighted long standing racial disparities in health care, education and housing.

How did newsrooms do in their coverage? Were there areas they overlooked? Did they re-examine their own work and if so, how will they report on these issues differently moving forward?

The panel will feature Beverly White, veteran reporter at NBC4; Angel Jennings, assistant managing editor for culture and talent at the Los Angeles Times; Sahra Sulaiman, communities editor for Streetsblog Los Angeles; and Javier Cabral, editor of L.A. Taco.

Freelance reporter Matt Tinoco will moderate the discussion.
