Student Journalism in the Era of COVID-19
SPJ/LA panelists share experiences of getting the news out in a challenging year
The COVID-19 pandemic forced newsrooms around the nation to rethink how they gather and disseminate news. Student journalists at colleges and universities have confronted the same challenges.
The Greater Los Angeles chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists will host the virtual panel “Student Journalists Pivot in the Wake of COVID-19,” with four college journalists discussing the hurdles they've faced in a year of lockdowns, distancing and online instruction.
The Feb. 23 event, held from 5 to 6 p.m., will feature:
Blake Atwell, sports reporter/anchor, UMTV, University of Miami
Christian Pineda, radio broadcaster and editorial assistant, KCSN 88.5. FM, Cal State University, Northridge
Carolyn Burt, editor in chief, The Corsair Newspaper, Santa Monica College
Zane Meyer-Thornton, web visuals editor, Western Kentucky Herald, Western Kentucky University
Barbara Kingsley-Wilson, faculty adviser, Daily 49er, Cal State University, Long Beach, will moderate.
