SPJ/LA releases statement following proposed layoffs at LA Times

SPJ/LA is disappointed to hear of the proposed layoffs at the LA Times. On Wednesday, the newsroom announced it is eliminating 74 positions, which represents about 13% of the total newsroom. These are hardworking journalists that will soon be without a job. These positions include both full-time and temporary employees. It is yet another sign of a disturbing trend across our industry. We hope management fulfills all contractual obligations in the LA Times Guild collective bargaining agreement. We stand in solidarity with our SPJ members and all journalists impacted by these impending layoffs.
